New Reef Ball Moulds for Barbados
<Back
Reef Balls are specially designed structures that are used to restore ailing coral reefs, thereby creating new fishing and diving sites.

Three years ago, the Barbados Marine Trust developed an initiative to bring Reef Balls to Barbados in an attempt to aid Barbados' coral communities.

The Trust proudly announces that the Reef Ball moulds and the necessary equipment for the creation of Barbados' first Reef Ball Project have arrived.

The Reef Balls were shipped in 4 separate sections that are easily assembled.

The Marine buoys displayed above will be inflated inside the mold prior to the pouring of the concrete.

The mold will be removed after the concrete has hardened and the completed reef balls will be rolled into the water, where, because of the buoy - they will be easily towed to the selected site.

The buoy will then be deflated - allowing the reef balls to descend and settle on the seabed
