THE Qatar Fertiliser Company (Qafco) yesterday celebrated the completion of its Mesaieed Artificial Reef Ball Project in the company’s Al Banush club in the city.
Senior officials from The Supreme Council for Environment and Natural Reserves (SCENR), the Environmental Studies Centre of the Qatar University, Mesaieed Industrial City, NGL, Qapco, QVC, Qafac, Qafco employees and members of the Mesaieed community attended the event.
Qafco’s managing director Khalifa Abdulla al-Suwaidi said the company has always felt the need to function in an environmentally responsible manner, in line with the motto ‘Environment is our Responsibility’.
He explained Qafco’s efforts to live up to national and international standards in the environment management, called it a strategic goal.
Al-Suwaidi said these achievements have encouraged Qafco to go for further developments. A project is being implemented in collaboration with Qatar University to install 150 reef balls at two locations off the Mesaieed shoreline “in order to restore and protect a wide variety of marine life forms from the surrounding threats,” he said.
Al-Suwaidi thanked all those connected with the reef ball project and appreciated their co-operation.
