Reef Ball Project

 TIDELINES Issue 1 - January/February 2003

On November 9th, the Oliver Beach Community Association led by volunteers Ray Reiner, Bryan Haberkam and Joe Gajdosik, built more Low-Pro Reef Balls bringing the total completed to eight. At this writing, a goal has not been established for the Oliver Beach Team but the overall goal of the MSSA and affiliated groups is 100 by May 15, 2003.

Marshy Point Nature Center, a nearby neighbor located on Dundee Creek, will demonstrate Reef Ball building on March 15th & 16th. Director Bob Stanhope expects to involve local families and have them build four units. He wants to incorporate the construction of more Reef Balls into the summer camp program as well. This will enable more young people to get involved.

On January 8th a Reef Ball Workshop will be held at Brighton Dam in the Patuxent River Watershed Area. Jodye Russell will organize this event with help from Perry Hall Chapter members. The goal will be to involve teachers and students in this part of the state in the Reef Ball Project.

Any group interested in participating in this project can contact Bill Huppert at 410-256-3733.
