1) Reef Ball Foundation, Inc. and the Reef Ball Foundation are
partnering with PortoMari, a sustainable development project on the
Carribean Island of Curacao (Dutch Antillies,) to create a Reef Ball reef
designed to protect a pristine natural wall dive (one of the best in the
Carribean), to restore a shallower reef line (the 1st reef line) where it
was damaged by Hurricane Lenny, and to protect a beach from erosion that
could damage nearby reefs by siltation.
Additionally, the project plans to work with several local NGO/ non-profit
organizations to educate Curacaoans to protect natural reefs. Initial
plans are for over 500 Reef Balls with long term community based additions
to substantially add to the restoration efforts over time.
