Reef Ball's Listbot Archive     Date: Nov 13 2000 11:51:15 EST From: "Reef Ball's Interested List" <reefball@reefball.com> Subject: Reef Ball Update   1) 69 fifth graders from the Walker School in Atlanta under the direction of Loraine Brooks made Lo-pro Balls, Oyster Balls and Miniballs at their school over a 2 day period. The students will deploy their new Reef Balls off the coast of St. Simons this week on their annual field trip to Driftwood/Epworth. Larry Beggs of Reef Innovations instructed the students on constructing the Reef Balls and will lead the deployment in St. Simons with Henry Ansley from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources. The Walker School plans to make this an annual project for their school. Special thanks to all the volunteers and people who assisted with this project and donated funds for the project. Pictures and reports by the students will be posted on the Reef Ball Foundation Kids page. www.reefball.org 2) Reef Ball models will be deployed in a seawater aquarium for coral farming at the University of Munich. They are testing the reefball as a suitable substrate for their coral projects. 3) Reef Ball staff are planning an assessment trip to Aruba the first week in December for a potential Reef Ball Foundation project. 4) A student from New College in Sarasota received a small grant to study Reef Balls in Sarasota Bay. 5) 4 more Reef Balls molds are being delivered to Tampa Bay Watch this week for an expansion of their successful under dock program. 6) Stuff magazine had an article on Eternal Reefs.
